What will you be doing?
Experience Designers are responsible for the design of digitally enabled products and services. You will use your broad skillset across the content, service, interaction, and visual design domains to craft holistic design solutions, from early-stage idea generation through detailed design of product service features and user stories in a digital voice product.
As a Senior Experience Designer - Voice, you are expected to represent depth in the craft of voice design as an individual contributor and compliment the work with corresponding UX design as needed. You will plan, prioritize, and deliver design activities autonomously in the context of cross-functional projects. You will lead client conversations and provide POVs for voice design, providing articulate recommendations and helping guide client choices.
In this specific role, you will join a bustling and collaborative team that leads the digital product discovery and design for a global Quick Service Restaurant – one that feeds 1% of the world’s population every single day. You will play a central role in exploring voice integration in digital products for ordering and crew facing restaurant technology, from research through detailed design, partnering closely with Product Management and Engineering (who are as passionate about product as they are burgers and fries). This is a hybrid position; three days per week you’ll link up with your team IRL at this global company’s headquarters in Chicago’s burgeoning West Loop.
Your fellow team members will rely on you to:
- Embrace being a self-starter with high agency, diving deep into the entire product design lifecycle, from user research to detailed design for voice
- Partner with other designers, product managers, and technology leads to drive alignment around user needs, and rally around lovable and feasible customer-first solutions
- Be able to zoom out to define holistic digital product and convergent experience concepts, in collaboration with cross-functional teams (e.g., Marketing, Strategy, Operations, etc.)
- Be curious and connect the “why” behind design decisions to the business’s goals
- Bring clarity to all through your design craft, especially when things feel ambiguous
- Apply systems thinking into actionable user flows

In this role, you will:
- Understand goals, business requirements and constraints, market opportunities and user needs to help define opportunity areas and experience requirements
- Develop conversational flows and interaction models for voice interfaces, ensuring clarity, coherence, and a natural conversational tone
- Define the context in which the user will interact with the voice assistant (e.g., hands-free, multitasking)
- Consider variations of prompts and responses to make the interaction feel more natural and less repetitive, ensuring paths for users to get back on track when errors and misunderstandings occur
- Consider diverse accents, languages, and speech patterns in design for global application
- Plan and conduct user testing through prototypes, simulating conversations, testing scripts, and conducting usability testing
- Map existing and future experiences, both front and backstage users who are involved, through journey maps, blueprints, and ecosystem maps
- Design wireframes, screens, and prototypes to illustrate product behavior along defined use cases

We want you to have:
- 8+ years of professional experience in experience/interaction design (although you might have had a different job title, like “Content Designer” or “UX Designer”), and a robust practical and theoretical grounding in experience design through your studies or through your previous experience
- 3+ years of experience designing for various voice platforms and devices (alexa, siri, google assistant, etc.)
- Ability to work onsite at company headquarters in Chicago three days per week
- A passion for understanding customer and user needs, as well as experience working with UX researchers and conducting UX research
- Experience working in Figma Exemplary core design skills, demonstrated in your portfolio of recent work
- A deep knowledge of and expertise using design and prototyping tools (such as Figma) and design language systems
- A love of learning new things and growing your skills by diving in head-first to the task at hand
- Excellent presentation skills, with a strong ability to clearly explain your work to others
- Experience collaborating in cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of and expertise using design and prototyping tools (such as Figma)

- Experience working in an agile product delivery environment
- Business level ability to conduct business in English
